Crescent Cookies

  • 2 Cups flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup walnuts (well chopped)
  • 2 Sticks butter (softened; 1 cup)
  • 2 eggs (well beaten)
  • 2 Teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • ½-¾ cup powdered sugar (for coating cookies)

Step 1
Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and walnuts together in a bowl.
Step 2
Cut the sticks of butter into pats, blend into the dry ingredients with a pastry blender or fork until well mixed.
Step 3
Combine the egg, vanilla, and milk in another bowl and fold into the dry ingredients. Work dough until it just holds together and is soft.
Step 4
Refrigerate dough for at least 2 hours.
Step 5
When ready to bake cookies, remove dough from refrigerator and pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 6
On a well floured surface, roll out dough to ¼” thick and cut with a crescent shaped cookie cutter.
Step 7
Place cookie crescents on cookie sheet about ½" apart.
Step 8
Bake for 13-15 minutes.
Step 9
Remove from oven and place cookies on a cooling rack to allow the bottoms to cool. While cookies are still hot, use a sifter or small strainer to evenly sprinkle with powdered sugar.
